Our Hens
At Absolute Free Range Eggs, our hens literally do rule the roost.
They are an integral part of our business and the farm, and because we rely upon them to produce the finest eggs New Zealand has tasted, we treat them with the love and respect that they deserve.

We manage our flocks to ensure healthy grass cover for them to scratch, perch and forage in, careful not to over-populate each paddock where they roam. Our hens live a good healthy and comfortable lifestyle enjoying green pastures and a spectacular view of the Hokonui Ranges by day, choosing to rest in their coop at night.
Our hens are tended to by our small team every day to ensure they always have access to feeders, fresh water and nest boxes, day and night.
What They Eat
Our hens enjoy a natural staple diet of wheat that is grown on our farm, grains, and they are supplemented with other minerals, vitamins and amino acids as required. This, complements their natural feed of insects, plants, and grains, and ensures the hens produce eggs which have bold yellow yolks, clear whites and strong shells.

Wheat is grown and harvested on our farm while the natural vitamins and mineral supplements are sourced locally, in Southland.

The feed for our hens is regularly checked and tested to ensure it meets their nutritional needs for growth and production. Our eggs are produced in compliance with the Ministry of Primary Industries standards.
